BHU adjudged best multi-disciplinary university in India
Varanasi, June 23, 2010: Banaras Hindu University vice-chancellor Professor DP Singh expressed his happiness over the ranking of BHU as the best multi-disciplinary university of the country in the current “Outlook-MDRA” survey.
Prof. Singh said that we would try to move forward to achieve further excellence at international scenario in the field of teaching, quality of research and higher education. “Now, our goal should be to be among the list of top world-universities. We should also keep on striving to propagate the model of ‘holistic education’ and multi-disciplinary approach of our founder Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviyaji”, he added..
Banaras Hindu University has again emerged on top in the latest Outlook-MDRA survey (Outlook, June 28, 2010 issue) of Indian colleges and institutions of professional education, among multi-disciplinary universities.
The Institute of Technology (IT), Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) and Faculty of Law of BHU were ranked higher than any other university having multi-faculty and multi-disciplinary setup.
In the overall ranking, the IT-BHU was 6th and only IITs that exclusively focus on technology education ranked higher than BHU. Similarly, the IMS ranked 13th but all the institutions that superseded it were autonomous medical colleges/institutes providing exclusive training in medical sciences.
With the 6th rank in the overall ranking the Faculty of Law, BHU was left behind only by those universities or institutes devoted solely to law education. Another highlight of the current “Outlook” survey is the inclusion of the Department of Sociology in the top ten Indian educational institutions of Social Work with rank 7th.
Overall, the findings of the survey of the “Outlook” highlight the multi-disciplinary strength and excellence of BHU.
Recently, “India Today-Nielsen” survey published in “India Today” May 31, 2010, issue, entitled “Citadels of Learning” top 50 universities rankings based on the criterion of ‘reputation of university’, ‘quality of academic input’, quality of the faculty, ‘research publications/reports/projects’ and infrastructure. BHU was ranked first in all the five criterions with overall first position followed by JNU as second and Delhi University as third.
