Birla Hostel 'A' wins BHU Hostel Excellence Award

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Vice-Chancellor Professor DP Singh gave away Hostel Excellence Awards at a function organized in Central Office Committee Room on the university campus in Varanasi on April 23, 2011. Birla ‘A’ Hostel of the Faculty of Arts got the overall winner trophy while Dalmiya Hostel of Science Faculty bagged the runner-up trophy. Dr JC Bose Girls’ Hostel won the top award in women’s section while Kundan Devi Malviya Girls Hostel of Mahila Mahavidyalaya collected the runner-up trophy. BHU Rector Professor BD Singh was present on the occasion.

Swimming pool inaugurated in BHU

Banaras Hindu University vice-chancellor Professor DP Singh inaugurated a newly constructed swimming pool on the university campus in Varanasi on April 22, 2011. Students, teachers, staff and their wards and even the outsiders can avail the facility of swimming in the pool by paying respective charges.

Earth Day celebrated in BHU

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) celebrated Earth Day by organising a function in Geology Department on April 22, 2011. Professor Malikarjun Joshi delivered the key note address while BHU vice-chancellor Professor Dhirendra Pal Singh presided over the function. Earlier, the vice-chancellor planted a sapling on the campus of the geology department to mark the occasion.

Digital language laboratory inaugurated in BHU Arts Faculty

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) vice-chancellor Professor Dhirendra Pal Singh inaugurated a high-tech digital language laboratory in the Faculty of Arts on April 21, 2011. Equipped with 30 computers, the laboratory will provide students the facility of learning eight foreign languages including English.

The Central Library of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) organized a two-day seminar on “Print to e-Resources: Challenges and Opportunities” on April 15, 2011. Critical care ambulance launched in SSL Hospital

Banaras Hindu University vice-chancellor professor Dhirendra Pal Singh inaugurated critical care ambulance for day to day service of the Sir Sunder Lal Hospital in Varanasi on April 8, 2011. The ambulance will be used to carry accident and critically ill patients to the hospital.

Cardiac Cath Lab inaugurated at SSL Hospital

Banaras Hindu University vice-chancellor professor Dhirendra Pal Singh inaugurated Cardiac Cath Lab at the Sir Sunder Lal Hospital on the university campus on April 8, 2011. This is the first of this kind laboratory between Lucknow and Kolkata. The lab has been established under the Prime Minister Health Security Scheme with a cost of Rs 7 crores. BHU had provided Rs 50 lakh for infrastructure development. Dr Praveen Chandra of Vedant City Hospital, Gurgaon, was the guest of honour in the inaugural function.
