Foundation stone laid for 14 buildings in IT-BHU
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) vice-chancellor Professor DP Singh laid the foundation stone of 14 buildings on Institute of Technology campus in BHU on May 24, 2010. Dr Singh offered prayers to Lord Shiva at Vishwanth Temple and also performed foundation stone laying Puja on the occasion.

Girija Devi turns 82
It was a day to remember when eminent vocalist Padam Bhushan Girija Devi was honoured at Nagari Natak Mandali in Varanasi on the occasion of her 82nd birth day on May 16, 2010.
A grand classical music programme was organised to mark the occasion. Her disciple Malini Awasthi (bottom in pix) captivated the audience with her melodious voice. As many as 21 artistes presented programmes to make it memorable one. Girija Devi, the classical singer of the Banaras Gharana also watched the presentations of her disciples.

150th birth anniversary of Rabindra Nath Tagore celebrated in Varanasi
Under the banner of Bangiya Samaj, a procession was taken out in Varanasi on May 9, 2010 to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindra Nath Tagore. The procession was taken out from CM Anglo Bengali Inter College and culminated into a meeting at a statue of Gurudev near Vijaya Cinema. Students of various schools participated in the celebrations.
