Girija Devi turns 82

It was a day to remember when eminent vocalist Padam Bhushan Girija Devi was honoured at Nagari Natak Mandali in Varanasi on the occasion of her 82nd birth day on May 16, 2010.

A grand classical music programme was organised to mark the occasion. Her disciple Malini Awasthi (bottom in pix) captivated the audience with her melodious voice. Under the banner of Bangiya Samaj, a procession was taken out in Varanasi on May 9, 2010 to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindra Nath Tagore. The procession was taken out from CM Anglo Bengali Inter College and culminated into a meeting at a statue of Gurudev near Vijaya Cinema. Students of various schools participated in the celebrations.
