NCC cadets of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) took out anti-tobacco rally on the university campus in Varanasi on May 30, 2011. BHU vice-chancellor Professor DP Singh flagged off the rally. Professor Singh also joined the rally to make the students aware about the ill effects of tobacco products.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) vice-chancellor Professor Dhirendra Pal Singh inaugurated a painting exhibition " Vision: Earth 2021" at the Faculty of Visual Arts in Varanasi on May 13, 2011. About 250 paintings and posters made by the students drawn from different schools of Varanasi were displayed in the exhibition. The paintings focussed on global warming, climactic changes and protection of environment drew huge applauds from visitors.
