H-index is a parameter used to assess performance of researchers and institutions based on strength of R & D. In the recent survey, BHU has improved H-index score that indicate quality of research being perused.
BHU has climbed up from sixth position to the third with an H-index of 58, while the university of
H-index score is important indicator viewed by peers/research scholars. For instance, if a researcher had published, say, 40 papers but his/her papers were cited in other studies or papers only 15 times, then his/her H-index would be only 15 and not 40.

It may be mentioned here that BHU has gained overall first ranking in India Today-Nielsen Survey published in India Today May 31, 2010, entitled “Citadels of Learning” top 50 universities was ranked based on the criterion of ‘Reputation of University’. ‘Quality of Academic Input’, Quality of the Faculty, ‘Research Publications/Reports/Projects’ and Infrastructure and also Banaras Hindu University has again emerged on top in the latest Outlook-MDRA survey (Outlook, June 28th) of Indian colleges and institutions of professional education, among multi-disciplinary universities.
The Banaras Hindu University Vice Chancellor Professor DP Singh expressed his happiness over ranking of BHU H-index scores. He said that we would try to move forward to achieve further excellence at international scenario in the field of teaching, quality of research and higher education. He said this is a tribute to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, when BHU celebrates 150th birth anniversary starting from December 25.
Vice Chancellor again stressed that we should also keep on striving to propagate the model of ‘holistic education’ and multi-disciplinary approach of our founder Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviyaji to achieve his goal to be among the top world University.
