Kanwariyas start arriving in Varanasi

As the holy month of Sawan or Shravan (July-August) began, Kanwariyas started arriving in Varanasi on July 26, 2010, despite all confusions whether Shravan starts on Monday or Tuesday. Devotees observe vrat (self imposed discipline) on all Mondays of Sawan and throng Shiva temples to pour water and milk on Shivalingam. Offering prayers at Jyoitrlingams are said to be the most auspices in the month of Sawan.
