International students celebrate Hostel Day in BHU







Varanasi, February 26, 2011: International students of Banaras Hindu University celebrated annual Hostel Day at International Student Complex of the university here on Saturday.

About 500 students from 54 countries participated in the function. About 117 students have been staying in hostel in which 57 are girls. While welcoming the guests Professor Mallikarjun Joshi, chairman International Center said the Central Government particularly through Indian Council for Cultural Research was playing a very proactive role in bringing international students to India and sending Indian students to different countries.

“ICCR is also supporting BHU’s activities of international students and also by having a center in BHU campus”, he said.

Different cultural programmes were organized by the students of different countries. One of the unique programme was national anthem of various countries by respective students, particularly by students of Bhutan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Yemen, Cambodia followed by India.

Other programmes including Thai dance, Bhutanies dance, and flute played by Bhandari of Nepal captivated the audience.

BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. D.P. Singh was the chief guest. Addressing the function he said: “I am happy to be here and wish very good luck for international students. I congratulate organizer the way this programme is organized”.

“This is a platform to know each other, respect and understand the culture and heritage of different countries under one umbrella”, he said.
